[DE MOLE, Fanny Elizabeth (1835-1866)]. Wild Flowers of Australia by F. E. D. [London: Paul Jerrard], 1861. 2° (350 x 260 mm). Lithographic title-page printed in gold, lithographic dedication printed in gold with 6 initials hand-colored, additional hand-colored title printed within a gold border with hand-colored oval vignette, 20 hand-colored lithographic plates, 21 pages of text printed in pink, all within lithographic border printed in gold, publisher's advertisement printed in gold. (Some very light soiling.) Original green morocco, title in a floral wreath blocked in gilt on both covers, edges gilt (slightly faded, upper cover scuffed, extremities rubbed, rebacked and recornered in dark blue calf). Provenance: Violet de Mole (gift inscription in pencil on first blank leaf); sold Christie’s King Street, 26 November 1997, lot 241. A FINE ASSOCIATION COPY INSCRIBED BY A MEMBER OF THE FAMILY: “Violet de Mole. Niece of Fanny Elizabeth de Mole - this copy presented by Cousin Isabel Maudslay of Teffont Manor, Dinton Wiltshire.” De Mole’s only work, and the first work on the botany of South Australia, of which fewer than 100 copies were produced. De Mole’s drawings were sent to London to be lithographed by Paul Jerrard & Son who then returned the finished plates to Adelaide, where De Mole and her family hand-colored them.
