* Davis (Louis, 1860-1941). "The Tongues of Fire", watercolour over a photographic base, depicting a circle of angels' heads with swirling winds and flames below, with a scroll of musical notation lower left, and the artist's printed monogram, 46 x 14cm (18 x 5.5ins), framed and glazed. Louis Davis was an English watercolourist, book illustrator and stained-glass artist. He was active in the Arts and Crafts Movement and Nikolaus Pevsner referred to him as the last of the Pre-Raphaelites. A similar design for a stained glass window of St. Francis, executed in watercolour over a printed base, was sold at auction by Rosebery's, London, 3rd August 2010, lot 669.. (1)
