Notes

Very rare first edition in German. The Latin original was officially published by the University of Basel. David Joris was originally a glass painter in Delft and Holland. At first he was close to Luther, was banished for ridiculing a trial, and converted to Baptism. Since 1544 he had been living in Basel, disguised as a Zwinglian. When his true identity came to light, three years after his death (1556), he was posthumously tried, his body exhumed on May 13, 1559 and burned with his books. - VD16 D 319; Van der Linde 247.
