Description

DAVID BACKHOUSE F.R.B.S. (1941- ), Bronze study with nude girl seated on a high stool, inscribed "Backhouse '75, 4/6", 14" high David Backhouse sculptor and designer lives near Bath and also has a studio in Brantome, France. His early career was spent working and travelling in Europe where he was particularly involved with portrait commissions. He has made many public sculptures notably Cloaked Horseman for Bristol City Centre, Centaurs for Whiteleys London W2, The Stream of Life for Central Square Telford and Dolphin Family for London Docklands. He says of his work "The themes are simple and universal: the interdependence of nature and humanity, the search for balance and harmony. My sculptures are meditations on the human and animal condition in the modern world, reflecting loss and tragedy, hope and delight, and above all tenacity of spirit".
