David B. Walkley (OH/CT, 1849-1934), Boat House
oil on canvas, signed at lower right "DB Walkley," depicting a boat house presumably on the Mystic River as men ready to begin their fishing venture, housed in likely original gilt and composition cove -molded frame with foliate decoration. David Walkely, born in Ohio, studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Julian Academy in Paris, and was at the Art Students League in New York where he painted with William Merritt Chase. In 1902, he moved to Mystic, Connecticut, where he helped found the Mystic Art Association along with fellow painters Henry Ward Ranger, J. Eliot Enneking, and Charles Davis.
