Description

Dario Neri ( 1895 - 1958 ) Italian painter, woodcut artist and historian. Offered here is an original woodcut, done circa 1924, image approx. 8 x 3 in. plus margins. NOT pencil signed. In 1913 he abandoned his technical studies; he studied in Florence at Giuseppe Rossi's painting school. In 1919 at the end of his military service in Carnia , in Macedonia and at the Supreme Military Command Italian , resume painting and also starts to affect the wood thanks to Adolfo De Carolis who had met in Bologna while he was still in service. From 1920 to 1934 he is completely dedicated to this [woodcut] artistic work: in addition to the activity of engraver and painter, is also involved in applied arts such as decoration, furniture design and layout of books and magazines. In 1920 he held his first solo exhibition in Siena. At the same time, he held various senior positions in the public: Prefectural Commissioner to the City of Murlo between 1938 and 1941 , director of the Siena Art Institute between 1939 and 1943 , member of the Council Municipal Fine Arts, the Building Committee, President of the Provincial Commission for the protection of the landscape, since 1951 , finally a member of the Deputation Administrator of the Monte dei Paschi. At the end of 1944 leaves the management institute Sclavus, to devote himself to the publication of art books. In the same year he founded the 'Electa Editrice of Florence, specialized in the publication of art books: thanks to his leadership, became one of the most prestigious internationally. Among the various personalities published develops a special relationship with Bernard Berenson. Very good condition.
