(Dalziel Brothers) Ingelow, Jean. Poems. xiv, [2], 318 pp. With numerous wood engraved illustrations throughout by various artist, including many by Edward Dalziel (1817-1905) and Thomas Dalziel (1823-1906); all are engraved by The Brothers Dalziel. 9x6½, gilt-decorated full red morocco, ruled and tooled in gilt, spine lettered in gilt, five raised bands, marbled endpapers, inner gilt dentelles, all edges gilt; bound by Riviere. First Edition. London: Longman, Green, Reader & Dyer, 1867 Signed and dated April 1, 1867 by Helen Dalziel (unable to determine exact relation to the brothers). The Dalziel Brothers, the pre-eminent and highly productive firm of Victorian engravers, worked with many important Victorian artists, producing illustrations for the burgeoning magazine and book market of the period. They cut the illustrations to Edward Lear's Book of Nonsense (1862); Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, etc. Minor rubs and nicks; occasional faint foxing; nice and near fine.
