Notes

Dahlberg, governor of Livonia and Chancellor of the University of Tartu in Estonia, obtained a commission from the Swedish government in 1661 to make drawings of the country's architectural treasures. Nearly all of the engravings were executed after his designs by Pierre Le Pautre, Jean Marot, Adam Perelle, Johann Jakob Sandrart, Willem Swidde, Jan van Vianen, Jan van den Aveele and eleven others. A small number were based on drawings by David Klocker-Ehrenstahl and Elias Brennter. The work was published for presentation purposes at the expense of the Swedish crown under Charles XI and XII. This copy has the fourteen-page index bound at the end but is, as often, without the rare accompanying text, written in Latin by Per Lagerlöf.
