NOTE

The sitter was the son of James Drummond Fullerton-Elphinstone, and his second wife, Anna Maria, the only child of Admiral Sir Edward Buller, Bt, MP. He succeeded his cousin John Elphinstone Fleming, 14^th Lord Elphinstone, who died unmarried in 1861. He married Constance Euphemia, the second daughter of the 6^th Earl of Dunmore in 1864.
