Engraved title, engraved portrait of the author [see below], numerous botanical illustrations throughout. (Lacks *1 [see below], small marginal wormhole affecting approximately the first 200 leaves, a few light stains.) ORIGINAL PUBLISHER'S BLIND-STAMPED VELLUM over pasteboard, blind-stamped "M.I.P." and "1601" on upper cover, spine in 5 compartments with 4 raised bands (joint repaired, stained, a few small wormholes). Provenance: Early Dutch owner (ownership name crossed out in ink on flyleaf); Bayer (ownership signature dated 18 February on title page). VOLUME ONE OF THE FIRST COLLECTED EDITION, with preliminary leaves as in the Arents copy which is also lacking the letterpress title-page and *1 and also with the original "Privilegium" (a cancel in the Hunt copy). Added to this copy is the portrait of the author from the 1605 "Altera Appendix". This edition contains the first edition of the "Fungorum historia," the first published monograph on fungi.
