In the introduction to the 1984 Arts Council exhibition, which used the present lot as the front cover illustration, the artist writes: 'I like the idea of extending the view beyond the narrow range, of opening out onto sweeping panoramas, moving from the close-up to the aerial view, of shifting from the single fixed view-point to a sense of the all-round' (op. cit.).
