Description

circa 1904 walnut and inlay of mother-of-pearl, rosewood, pewter and chequer stringing, the moulded arched top above three arched open shelves, the central cupboard door inlaid with a fish amongst stylised fronds and enclosing two shelves flanked by further cupboard doors with conforming frond inlay, the right cupboard enclosing pigeon holes, the apron drawer above shaped bracket feet central door inscribed `Ct Heaton Inst.'

Notes

Heaton made a very few examples of marquetry work at his Neuchâtel, Switzerland workshop during the period 1903 to 1905. He exhibited a jewellery casket at the 1903 Arts and Crafts Exhibition, which was illustrated in The Studio, vol. 119 (February 1903), p. 180. This cabinet is the only example to have been traced.
