Claude François was the son of Alexandre-François Desportes and continued in his father's footsteps as a painter of still life compositions as well as portraits of animals, especially those in the royal household.

Here, Claude Francois depicts Louis XV's prized greyhound, Zette, resting among the spoils of the hunt.
