1130. MARK CLARK (1896 - 1984) American Army general, commanded the landings at Salerno and Anzio against the forces of Kesselring. Fine content T.L.S. "Mark W. Clark" on Citadel letterhead, 1p. 4to., Charleston, S.C., June 20, 1977 to a Mrs. James Wassmuth of Staten Island. In part: "...With regards [to] what I think might have been Harry Truman's greatest moment, was when the Germans unconditionally surrendered in World War II. I know I got my greatest thrill at that time when I accepted the surrender of the German Ground Forces which had fought us so tenaciously during the long, difficult campaign...".
