Notes

PROPERTY FROM LA COLECCIÓN PEREGRINA VIRREINAL, FUNDACIÓN ARTE SACRO ANTONIO ROIG-FERRÉ, SAN JUAN

According to scholar Dr. Marcus Burke, (Sacramental Light: Latin American Devotional Art from the Fundación Arte Sacro Antonio Roig-Ferré Collection) although the picture has been attributed to Juan Rodríguez Juárez and shows the direct influence of this master especially in the figures of the Indians, the rendering of the saint is distinct from Rodríguez Juárez's own hand. This suggests the intervention of someone who may have worked with the artist or his brother, Nicolás Rodríguez Juárez.
