The Danish Countess, Wilhelmina Frederika Hedwig Von Platen-Hallermunde was the daughter of Henrik Platen-Hallermunde and Ann Von Aborniszand and was born in Garrisons Sogn, Copenhagen. She married Mr Francis Garden Denovan (1790-1860) of Leith, Scotland. He worked at the British Consulate in Copenhagen. They had ten children, six sons and four daughters between 1820 and 1840, for the most part all born in the Midlothian district, Scotland.

The sitter's identification was inscribed on the reverse of a gilded composition frame that previously housed the miniature.
