The present portrait relates to a number of portraits of William of Orange by the artist, presumably based on a full-length portrait, no longer in existence. Autograph versions, also half-length, can be found in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, Madrid (dated 1579), and in the Mauritshuis, The Hague.
