Cette oeuvre, représentant le King Charles de la Marquise de Pompadour, figurait dans l’importante collection de tableaux français modernes et de peintures hollandaises du XVIIe siècle d’Abel-François Poisson de Vandières, Marquis de Marigny et de Ménars (1727-1781). Frère de la Marquise de Pompadour, il hérita à la mort de cette dernière en 1764 du Château de Ménars et des oeuvres qui s’y trouvaient alors, dont notre portrait de l’un des chiens de la Marquise, un King Charles nommé Mimi. Celle-ci semble avoir un grand amour pour ces petites bêtes traitées avec une grande préciosité, mangeant dans des services en porcelaine et dormant dans des soieries. Elle les emmenait dans tous ses déplacements, lors de ses promenades ou même aux messes.
Cet intérêt si particulier explique qu’elle ait commandé à l’un des peintres animaliers les plus importants de la Cour, Christophe Huet, élève de Claude Gilllot (Salons de Chantilly, Grande et Petite Singerie), un portrait en souvenir de son fidèle compagnon.

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to € 500 000: 25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to € 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted.
