Depicting five ladies at their leisure in connecting gardens with views through windows into the houses, with inscription signed Qian Yong (1759-1844) but also of later date, (silk backing deteriorated)

Provenance: Purchased by Dr Faith Philpot Crowther in Amoy in 1901. Thence by descent.

Dr Crowther was a missionary, one of the first group of female students permitted to study medicine at Edinburgh University, and appointed a court physician in Eng Chun before retiring to San Francisco.
