Chester Fields (American, b. 1945), "Building for the Future", c. 1989, Artist Proof 4/10, bronze eagle sculpture with silver overlay, gold accents and black sapphire eyes, 54" without base

Beginning in the mid-1980s to sculpt eagles because he feared they would become extinct, Chester Fields initially used a large amount of his own money to pay for his first sculpture. Called Splashdown, it was a four-feet high bald eagle swooping down to catch a rainbow trout. In 1985, this sculpture won the Best of Show at the C.M. Russell Auction in Great Falls, Montana. One of the series is in Maui, Hawaii at the Whalers' Village, and another is the focus of the Anheuser-Busch Company new nine-story building in St. Louis. Fields was born in Dallas, Oregon, and moved at age 8 with his family to British Columbia, Canada. He earned a degree in graphic design at a college in Spokane, Washington, and then served in the U.S. Army in Germany, where he visited numerous museums and became especially enamored with sculpture. Returning to the Northwest, he was a commercial artist and then turned full time to his own art, establishing his studio in Veradale, Washington. After 20 years, he turned to sculpture and focuses on every detail. He uses a mixture of metals including gold, stainless steel, silver, and bronze. On the beaks and claws, he uses gold or silver plating, which has to be applied to a flawless surface.

PICK-UPS:
The buyer must arrange for collection of a purchased lot within seven (7) days of the date of the auction. Vogt Auction will not release auction purchases until we have received payment in full (and until any checks have cleared the bank). If the buyer pays for their purchases but does not collect their items within thirty (30) days of the auction, the buyer will incur a storage fee of $5 per day. We will not release purchased lots to the buyer until all such charges have been paid in full. If a purchased lot is paid for but not picked up within 2 months the buyer authorizes Vogt Auction, upon notice, to arrange a resale of the item by auction or private sale, with estimates and a reserve set at Vogt Auction's reasonable discretion. The proceeds of such sale will be applied to pay for storage charges and any other outstanding costs and expenses owed by the buyer to Vogt Auction and the remainder will be forfeited unless collected by the buyer within 2 years of the original auction.

Invoices will be emailed to each buyer including a written description and hammer price of each purchase as well as any applicable buyer's premium and tax. Texas residents are charged at our local San Antonio sales tax rate unless we are provided a copy of a valid Texas state resale certificate. Out of state residents are generally not charged Texas sales tax.

NON-PAYMENT:
By Texas law a winning auction bidder automatically enters into a legal and binding purchase contract with the auction house. In the rare case when a successful bidder fails to pay for their purchases within the time period allowed Vogt Auction will pursue available legal steps to protect its interests and may block the bidder from future auction participation. Reasonable interest and storage fees may also be added to past due invoices.
