Notes

Chen Ke's works focus on identity, personal experience and the individual's inner world, which are the concerns of her generation. 2005 is a very meaningful year for her as she moved to Beijing to pursue her artistic career. Many works painted then explore concepts such as the weight of thought, the colour of hope, or the nature of love, from a bond to a passion. Using aesthetics and a palette characteristic of hers, she depicts the red- buttoned nose girl, her signature figure, attaching herself to a red hook with a lock of hair. Her face is peaceful. With her elf like ears upside down, the figure is reminiscent of an actual heart. The colour of passion, red, stems from her hair.
