Charles West Cope RA (1811-1890) Pencil study of a lady seated in a chair holding a sleeping child, with a book Inscribed with the artist's name and provenance on an exhibition label verso, pencil drawing, a preparatory unfinished study, 7cm by 8cm, provenance: Abbott & Holder Ltd, 30 Museum Street, London and numbered 67704, and The Sabin Gallery; And three further drawings of children, one with a dog seated in a large ornately gilded and upholstered chair with a toy ball in the foreground, another of a child seated beside a dog kennel holding a book with an extensive landscape beyond, initialled CB and dated 1830, and a picture of a child dressed in tartan costume with a drum nearby, indistinctly signed, possibly H Berteau 1848, various sizes (4)
