Footnotes

Originally conceived as a pair of busts sometime on or after 1921-24 depicting Admiral Sir David Beatty (1871-1936) and a companion bust of Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig (1861-1928), the full size models of these smaller editions cast circa 1935 are now unknown. The small scale models were presumably used to promote Queen Mary's Dolls House and were produced in very limited edition - the bust of Beatty was reportedly cast five times and the companion of Haig three times.

Admiral Sir David Beatty (1871-1936), Vice-admiral and Commander of the Grand Fleet, received the surrender of the German navy on 21st November 1918. In 1919 he was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet and later that year became First Sea Lord.

Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig (1861-1928) became Commander in Chief of the British army in December 1915. After the war, Haig was created 1st Earl Haig and following his retirement from active service, spent the rest of his life promoting the welfare of ex-servicemen.
