A beveled glass mirror flanked by two lateral panels, each reverse painted with tempera and applied gold leaf, the left panel signed with initials 'CP' bottom left, the right, signed twice with initials 'CP' bottom left and center

Overall size, including stained hardwood frame 15 3/4 x 28 1/8 in. (40 x 71.4cm)

Gift from the artist to Hannah O'Brien who nursed the artist's brother, Maurice Brazil Prendergast, at his Greenwich Village home in New York.
By family descent to John and Olga O'Brien.
By family descent to the present owner.

note:
According to Dr. Nancy Mowll Mathews, this work dates from circa 1920 and relates to works such as "Decorated Mirror With Two Figures" circa 1915-17 (catalogue raisonne no. 2231), "Decoration on Glass" circa 1915-17 (catalogue raisonne no. 2233) and "Fairy Story" circa 1920, reworked in 1946 (catalogue raisonne no. 2277). The latter piece, which features similar motifs was a gift to the artist's friend, William Glackens.
