Notes

During his lifetime Meynier was one of the most sought after artists in France. He started his training with François-André Vincent before winning the Prix de Rome in 1789, at the same time as his contemporary Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson. He spent until 1793 studying in Rome before returning to Paris, to forge his career. He achieved great success and recognition including commissions for the Bourse, the Museé du Louvre and also for supplying the designs for the statues and bas-reliefs of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. In recognition of his services to the Arts he was created a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur in 1822, and an Officer in 1830.
