Condition Report

The canvas is unlined and shows five small repaired patches on the reverse. The paint surface is clean and the colours are strong. There is good quality impasto in the drapery and the spray of the waves. There is a small hole in the canvas in the foliage, to the left of centre. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals two very small spots of retouching in the foliage but no other retouching. It is very rare to find paintings of this age in such excellent and original condition. The lot is offered in a gilt molded frame with curling floral decoration in the corners. The frame has a few minor knocks but is otherwise in good condition.
