Charles James Fox (British, c.1860-1932)
Beached boat by a river, with cottages and washing line in the distance, signed, watercolour heightened with body colour, 10 1/4" x 17".
Provenance:
Charles Townsend and thence by descent.
Charles James Fox was one of a number of Arts & Crafts artists based around the new development in Letchworth Garden City. Other artists included A. J. Bamford, Spencer Gore, Harold Gilman, William Ratcliffe, Frank S. Ogilvie and sculptor Onslow Whiting. C. J. Fox was very much central to this grouping and his studio was used for group meetings.
The group centred around Stanley and Signe Parker (Stanley was brother to the architect Barry Parker, responsible for the layout of the new garden city) and included the Townsend family.
