Charles François Hutin trained in Paris under François Lemoyne. After travelling to Rome he became interested in sculpture which he studied under Sébastien-Antoine Slodtz (1695-1754). He became a member of the Académie Royale in 1747 and was appointed in 1748 as First Sculptor to Augustus III in Dresden, remaining there for the rest of his life. Although primarily active as a sculptor, he continued to paint both large and small-scale commissions including intimate genre scenes.
