A FAMILLE-VERTE DISH AND AN ENAMELED VASE

The dish, Kangxi; the vase, 19th century

The dish painted in verte enamels with a phoenix at the center surrounded by four cartouches with antique vessels and utensils, the rim with a cell pattern with further cartouches representing the four 'arts of the scholar', the reverse side with a thin cell band at the rim and an underglaze-blue encircled flowerhead mark;
together with an iron-red, green enameled and gilt, blue and white small baluster vase painted with peony sprays rising from a grassy knoll near rockwork issuing smaller chrysanthemum sprays, an underglaze blue
Chenghua four-character mark to the base. (2)


dish: 10 5/8in (27cm) diam
vase: 9 5/16in (23.8cm) high

Dish: Broken across the dish in several places and re-stuck. Minor glaze loss. The dish has a collection label reading '1142' adhered to the rim interior.


Vase: Generally, in good overall condition. Some air-bubbles pinpricks at the rim but unobtrusive. A small kiln adhesion near the foot.
