Printmaker Charles Nelson Beck (1923-2017) was born and raised in Fergus Falls, MN and he returned there to establish himself as an artist after completing military service and graduate school in the 1950s. He received his BA degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, where he studied with Cyrus Running. His MFA degree was earned at the University of Iowa in 1950. In 1957, Beck studied at San Miguel Allende in Mexico. He also took art courses at the University of Minnesota. During the 1960's, Beck began teaching at Fergus Falls Community College.As the predominant theme of his work is landscape, the artist has expressed that he feels fortunate to live so close to the inspirational woods, fields and farmlands of the region. “Just about anything I’ve done of significance is somehow related to the nature and the land around here,” he states.
