Notes

Charles Baum, born in Germany and known for Portrait Still Lifes, exhibited a painting titled The Fruit Seller at the annual Pennsylvania Academy of Arts in 1864 exhibition. Although we are not sure this is the painting he exhibited, it is possible that the work was created around this time. It is believed that the artist eloped to America with his bride, Susanna Schneider, sometime between 1848 and 1852. They settled in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey.
