CHARLES BALTHAZAR JULIEN FEVRET DE SAINT-MEMIN (FRENCH 1770-1852) PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG BALTIMORE LADY SEATED IN A WINDSOR CHAIR , c. 1805 Signed " St. MeminFt. " watercolor on paper, framed. Some fading, discoloration, tears right side. 5 7/8 x 4 1/4 in. PROVENANCE: This portrait is believed to have descended in the Van Lear family of Williamsport, Maryland. The sitter may be one of the daughters of Matthew and Mary Irwin Van Lear, who lived at Mount Tammany, a home north of Williamsport. The portriat was in private hands when it sold at Christies East, New York , in 1992. The portrait is photographed and described in St. Memin and the Neoclassical Profile Portrait in America, Ellen G. Miles, (1994) number 897, page 418.
