Notes

Charles Augustus C. Lasar was a prominent member of the expatriate colonies in Paris and Concarneau, France. Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Lasar studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Jean Leon Gérôme, and quickly earned a reputation for his exceptional draftsmanship.
Lasar's Paris studio, opened to students in 1886, was primarily geared toward women and during the course of its activity, became one of the largest private atéliers in Paris. His students included Cecilia Beaux, Arthur Wesley Dow, Minerva Chapman, Robert Henri and Violet Oakley.
