Carl Redin moved to Albuquerque in 1916. In the 1920s and 1930s, he received national recognition for his paintings of the Southwest, particularly New Mexico. He taught summer classes at the University of New Mexico in Lubbock, Texas. By the late 1930s he moved to California.
