Condition Report

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This very large and elaborate picture has been restored. The restoration is competent, and the work should be hung in its current condition. The restoration is quite extensive in some areas. For instance, there is a significant amount of restoration in the white and black cats in the lower left quadrant. The paint layer does not appear to be noticeably abraded. In the darkest colors of the gilded bureau on the right side, some abrasion and broad retouching has occurred. There is also restoration in the darkest colors of the three cats on top of this piece of furniture, and similar broad re-glazing of some of the darkest colors in the upper left. For a large picture, the condition is reasonably good.
"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
