Prince Johann was also known as Philateles "friend of truth." Making use of this pseudonym, he translated Dantes "Divine Comedy". He succeeded to the throne of Saxony in 1854 and fought for the creation of a united German state with the vision of a constitutional monarchy which he realised for Saxony as well.
