Description

Carl Buergerniss (NJ, 1877-1956), Landscape, oil on canvas, artist monogram and date in lower right "C B / 19," depicts a young child in an impressionist springtime landscape, housed in the likely original carved gilt wood frame. Carl Buergerniss studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, exhibiting works at the annual Pennsylvania Academy exhibitions from 1903 to 1956. In 1910, he and his family built "Iris Cottage" in Island Heights, New Jersey. For the next five decades, Buergerniss traveled between Island Heights and Philadelphia, painting along the way.
