Collection of Siegfried Bing (1838-1905), Irene Bing de Matias, daughter of Siegfried Bing, Heinrich Matias Bing, son of Irene, thence by descent within the family

Siegfried Bing, an international businessman, art collector and dealer, was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1838 and moved to France in 1854. In 1895 he opened the Maison de l'Art Nouveau, which gave its name to the Art Nouveau movement. Among the artists whose works were shown there were Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard and Felix Vallotton. Bing also traveled to the Far East to purchase objects for sale at the gallery, helping to popularize Asian art in the west.

Frame rubbing. Lined. Scattered cracquelure throughout. Two 1'' areas of inpainting in the center child's shoulder and chest. Some strengthening in the leaves and foliage at lower left. Other filling in of cracquelure at upper right corner. Other scattered spots of inpainting. Condition commensurate with age.
