Of the 'One Colour Paintings' from 1970 through to 1973/74, Walter Klepac writes: By choosing to submit himself and the work to the to the rule of the clock, Martin has replaced the expressive component in action painting (as well as the intentional component in traditional painting} with an external and mechanical limit. The method of paint application, the choice of type, amount and colour of paint, represent the physical limits at work in these paintings.
