Description

A Voyage Round the World, from 1806 to 1812; in Which Japan, Kamschatka, the Aleutian Islands, and the Sandwich Islands, Were Visited. Edinburgh: Archibald Constable, 1816. [3]-288 pp., without half-title. Folding engraved map, partially hand-colored. 8vo (225 x 130 mm). Later half calf. First few leaves detached, light browning, binding rubbed.

First edition. During a trading voyage to Alaska, Campbell's vessel was wrecked on the island of Sannack. The sailor lost both his feet to frostbite, but eventually made his way to Hawaii, where he remained from 1809-1810 (an appendix contains a Hawaiian vocabulary).
