CAMÕES, Luis de La Lusiade [...]. Nouvellement traduit du portugais, avec des notes et la vie de l'auteur. Enrichi de figures à chaque chant. Paris Nyon l'aîné (de l'imprimerie de Ph.D. Pierres) 1776 2 vol. in-8° : [4]-xxix-[3]-320, [4]-291-[4] pp.; 10 pl. (salissure marg. à la pl. du Chant II, pet. trou marg. à la p. 231 du vol. I, bonne condition). Basane racinée de l'ép., dos lisses fleuronnés dorés avec étiq. de cuirs vert et rouge, tr. jaspées de rouge (coiffes lég. frottées, pet. manque à la coiffe sup. et pet. coup au plat inf. du vol. I, coins émoussés). Premier tirage des 10 gravures non signées mais attribuables à Charles Eisen, portant uniquement le numéro du chant qu'elles illustrent. Édition traduite par Duperron de Castera (1707-1752), précédée d'une biographie de Camões (c. 1517- c.1579) et dont chaque chant est suivi d'un appareil critique. Jugeant que l'intérêt qu'on portait au Portugal était insuffisant, Camões partit pour les Indes en 1553 et vécut à Goa où, bien que fasciné par les exploits de ses compatriotes, il fut indigné par les abus pratiqués dans l'administration. Il en fit la critique dans une satire qui indigna tant le vice-roi de Goa qu'il fut exilé à Macao. C'est là qu'il rédigea ce célèbre poème à la gloire des Portugais dans lequel il relate l'expédition de Vasco de Gama. Réf. Cohen 200. - Reynaud 74. Prov. René Guyot (ex-libris armorié). Auction - Terms of sale

The purchaser shall pay, strictly cash, the hammer price, in €, together with a premium of 25 %, eventually plus the resale tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from € 2000 on, only for original art and if the author died less than 70 years ago.
The auction follows the order indicated by the catalogue. The biddings start at about 80 % of the lowest estimate and each bid must be +/? 10% higher than the previous one. In case of a dispute the lot will be called again.
The auctioneer has the right to refuse a bid, and this without further explanation.
Each buyer by making a bid acknowledges the conditions of sale and the fact that he has inspected the purchased item.
The auctioneer has the right to split a lot or join several lots.
Lots with two or more titles, series or periodicals, or lots with a mention "n.c." and 'sold w.a.f.'are not collated and cannot be returned.
Each buyer is supposed to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission. Each bidder should inspect the lots during the exhibition. Under no circumstances can an item, once sold, be returned. For lots bought via a bidding order remarks or complaints, also concerning the authenticity of the items, should be formulated within 2 weeks after the auction. After that delay no item can be returned.
