Ce rare bureau en acajou et placage d'acajou, aux proportions
harmonieuses, est caractéristique de l'Œuvre de la célèbre Maison
Jacob Frères auquel il est attribué. Il ouvre en ceinture par deux tiroirs
de longueur et deux tirettes latérales tendues de cuir, à l'instar du
plateau. La ceinture est agrémentée de deux lions ailés affrontés en
bronze ciselé et doré encadrant un losange centré d'une fleurette. Le
dessin des pieds à décor également de lions ailés en bronze patiné
est en effet directement inspiré des répertoires gravés de Percier et
de Fontaine, les célèbres architectes-décorateurs de Bonaparte, et
très proches collaborateurs des frères Jacob. Notre bureau trouve des échos directs dans les répertoires décoratifs de plusieurs meubles majeurs, comme les lions ailés du piètement du bureau de la bibliothèque du Premier Consul au château de Malmaison, provenant
du palais des Tuileries, une importante table conservée au Grand-Trianon à Versailles, exécutée par Jacob-Desmalter, ou encore une paire de consoles en bois doré, également par Jacob-Desmalter, aujourd'hui conservée au château de Fontainebleau.
Si Georges Jacob (1739-1814) et ses deux fils, Georges II (1768-1803)
et François-Honoré-Georges (1770-1841), ne furent pas les seuls à produire de tels meubles sous le Consulat et l'Empire, leur influence
sur leurs confrères à travers la création de nouveaux modèles fut en
revanche incontestable. Elle était de surcroît doublée d'une audace
et d'un savoir-faire incomparables.
Le 13 avril 1796, sans cesser cependant de les conseiller, le père céda
son entreprise à ses deux fils qui optèrent dès lors pour l'appellation
Jacob Frères.
Ils produisirent pendant cette période Directoire-Consulat les meubles
les plus séduisants qui soient jamais sortis de leur atelier. Le mérite
en revient assurément pour une grande part au frère cadet, François-
Honoré-Georges, eu égard à ses talents de dessinateur. Médaillé
d'or à la seconde Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie, celle de
l'an IX (1801), ils livrèrent le mobilier de la maison de Bonaparte,
rue Chantereine, commandé en 1797 par Joséphine. Ils meublèrent
également l'hôtel de Juliette Récamier ou encore celui du Général
Moreau. En 1803, après la disparition de Georges II (octobre), le père
fonda une nouvelle association de neuf ans avec son second fils. La
maison prit le nom de Jacob-Desmalter et Cie.

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to e 500 000:
25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to e 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur Kohn or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer. BIDS

an object, the lot will be put up for sale again and all those present in the sale room may participate in this second opportunity to bid.
