Vol. I: Title within woodcut allegorical border, 4- and 5-part borders to several pages, woodcut arms of Strassburg, ornamental and historiated initials, head- and tailpieces, 86 woodcuts of plants by Hans Weiditz, COLORED IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND (title repaired on verso, some marginal dampstaining, a few blank corners or margins repaired touching a few letters); vol. II: Title within woodcut allegorical border, 4- part border on 2 pages, 49 woodcut illustrations by Weidnitz mostly COLORED IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND (light marginal dampstaining); vol. III: 104 woodcut illustrations by Weidnitz a few colored by hand. Late 19th-century vellum. Second edition of vol. I and FIRST EDITIONS OF VOL. II AND III. After publication of the first volume of Herbarum vivae icones in 1530, Brunfels continued working on it, and published the second volume in 1532. It contains a further 47 new woodcuts by Weiditz, plus two which had appeared in vol. I. The appendix to volume II contains works by other authors, including Brunfels's contemporaries Bock and Fuchs; their contributions here are their first botanical publications.
