Notes

charming scenes of the months of the year, each showing various activities such as harvesting, feasting, building and so on, all set before attractive landscapes including, for the summer months, formal gardens. At the top of each engraving is the astrological sign associated with that particular month.

The publisher of the plates, Thomas de Leu (c.1555-c.1612) was a prolific French engraver and illustrator. Originally based in Antwerp, at around 1580 he moved to Paris to work for the painter and engraver Jean Rabel.
