BOUCHER, Nicolas (1528-1593). Caroli Lotharingi Card. et Francisci Ducis Guysii Literae et Arma, in funebri Oratione habita Nancii. Paris: Federicus Morellus, 1577. 2 parts in one volume, 4o (244 x 185 mm). Titles and dedication leaves within woodcut border, 3 engraved plates (2 portraits and one monument) window-mounted to size, ruled in red. (Some light mostly marginal staining). Contemporary gold-stamped flexible vellum, with the coat-of-arms of Louis I of Lorraine (1524-1574) stamped on sides, grotesque corner-pieces, edges gilt. Provenance: Cardinal Charles of Lorraine (his supralibros on sides); Montcaeli (early stamp on verso of titles); Guglielmo Libri (his sale, S. Leigh Sotheby and John Wilkinson 1 August 1859, lot 372); acquired from Librairie Rossignol, 1982. FIRST EDITION, DEDICATION COPY ON LARGE PAPER, dedicated to the descendants of Cardinal Charles of Lorraine. Louise I de Lorraine was the brother of Francis, Duc de Guise (1519-1563) and Charles, Cardinal of Lorraine (1524-1576). His sister was Marie de Lorraine, who married James V of Scotland and their daughter was Mary Anne of Scots. Adams B-2576; Brunet I:1022 (this copy, citing the Libri sale).
