Notes

Boris Al'medingen worked as a set designer with Golovin at the Mariinsky Theatre and with Vsevolod Meyerhold on Sukhovo-Kobylin's trilogy at the Alexandrinsky. The costume designs from the offered lot are for the silent cinematic production of Asya which premiered on 12 November 1928, directed by Aleksandr Ivanovsky and distributed by Sovkino. The film was not based on Turgenev's novel but was a dramatic, and most likely fictional, interpretation of some facts from the writer's biography. Actors in the production included: Konstantin Hokhlov, Kondrat Yakovlev, Anatoly Nelidov and Polina Viardo.
