Item Overview

Description

Wheeler (Dorothy Muriel, 1891-1966). An original illustration for Tommy & the Starman, c.1950, watercolour illustration, of a witch with two small figures and a kitten outside a magical door labelled 'Starland', 445 x 325 mm (17.5 x 12.75 ins), mounted Dorothy Muriel Wheeler studied at Blackheath School of Art. A watercolourist, she produced figure studies in the style of Kate Greenaway's later work, and during the 1940s and 1950s became one of the main illustrators of Enid Blyton's books. We have been unable to trace a book entitled 'Tommy & the Starman', so perhaps the work took a different name, or was never published. (1)
