Notes

first edition of Boodt's only published work. Boodt studied law and medicine, being a friend of Tadeas Hajek and a critic of Paracelsus, and from 1604 to 1612 he was physician to Rudolf II in Prague. "Boodt made the first attempt at a systematic description of minerals, dividing the minerals into great and small, rare and common, hard and soft, combustible and incombustible, transparent and opaque" (DSB II, p.293).
