BODE, Johann Elert (1747-1826). Vorstellung der Gestirne auf XXXIV Kupfertafeln nach der Pariser Ausgabe des Flamsteadschen Himmelsatlas. Berlin and Stralsund: Gottlieb Augsut Lange, 1782.

Oblong 4o (208 x 266 mm). Hand-colored engraved title at beginning of plates and 34 engraved plates by Daniel Berger, colored in a contemporary hand, two leaves of manuscript index bound in at end (some overall light browning). Contemporary calf (rebacked, corners repaired).

FIRST EDITION. Bode, was the royal astronomer and director of the astronomical observatory in Berlin for almost 40 years. "His two star atlases were for a long time indispensible tools for astronomers the IVorstellung der Gestirne, which according to the example set by John Flamsteed's atlas, contained more than 5,000 stars" (DSB).
