Bevan, Irwin John David, (British) 1852-1940, two miniature watercolours depicting maritime battles, each watercolour with a handwritten excerpt to verso from James's Naval History explaining each event depicted. The first miniature entitled "Admiral Sir G.B Rodney's Action 9th April 1782, the second miniature entitled Battle of the Nile 1st August 1798. The Dutch Admiral blew up with a prodigious noise. Other ships were either capsized or destroyed, two only escaping- only to fall into British hands at a later date
